Creating Product Samples

One of the best parts of designing patterns is seeing them on products in the real world! Below are several product samples with my printed patterns. I love to take the opportunity to photograph products I make specifically to add them to my portfolio so that clients and art directors can see the range of my skill set. Thankfully Jared, my husband, is a photographer and does this for me!

When I was first starting to learn design, I heard so many artists raving about Society6. It is such a great way to quickly get your art onto products since all you have to do is upload your art and Society6 handles the rest!

Design with the Final Product in Mind

When designing patterns, it is helpful to think of the final product in mind. The Apple Watch Band above was for my mom. She wanted a colorful, floral print. In this case, a print with large floral motifs would not work well since an Apple Watch Band has a small surface for printing. Shop here for this Apple Watch. For the Throw Blanket, the motifs can be larger since there is more surface area to print. Shop here for this Throw Blanket. The Thank You Note was adapted from a design I created for my grandmother. After she passed away, my family wanted to send cards to everyone who provided meals and support.
