A Blooming New Design in my Spoonflower Shop: Magnolias in May

Magnolias are one of my favorite flowers, they bloom in springtime and produce beautiful white flowers that flock the Southern magnolia trees. They are such a quintessential flower in the south and ubiquitous in southern towns. We have two mature magnolias on our property, an immediate selling point when we bought our house.

Magnolias in May Fabric

My daughter’s name is Magnolia, and after she was born I wanted to make her a pattern to use for stationery, a baby blanket, and now fabric! I am wanting to learn how to sew, eventually, to be able to make her outfits with my designs.

Last spring, I reopened my Spoonflower shop, with a renewed sense of eagerness to see my designs on fabric. I am continually updating and adding new designs to my shop, and this week I have my Magnolias in May pattern available!

One feature I love about Spoonflower is the ability to purchase swatches to test fabric samples for just $5.00!

I envision this pattern as being a sweet romper or dress and bloom set for babies.

Magnolias in May Fabric Scale

I have a small scale version of the Magnolias in May pattern listed in my shop as well. It can be helpful to have different scaled patterns for various sewing projects that need a smaller scale of the pattern to be visible, e.g. a headband or bow.

Magnolias in May Wallpaper

Spoonflower has a range of products in addition to fabric, including wallpaper. Wallpaper can be used for other projects around the home to add color and texture to a room. Wallpaper in a closet can add extra flair to an otherwise blank space, or can be used to spruce up a laundry area to create an inviting aesthetic for a daily chore.

Finding Meaning and Purpose in Creating Art

While I love to share the inspiration behind a pattern or collection, I do not often tie too much meaning to my work, other than creating things I enjoy. I mostly love making art to make things more beautiful. However, this pattern was one of my favorites to design, and see come to life since it had so much meaning to me as it reminds me of my daughter. I love the pink since it reminds me of her sweet outfits and the beautiful white flowers for which she is named. Finding meaning and purpose in creating art is such a personal experience as it is different for everyone. Being creative in a world that often wants us to be a cog in a wheel can be challenging, but all the more fulfilling to find joy in daily life when given a chance to create something new that fills your very soul. Magnolias in May is part of a collection I am releasing this year!
