The Maid by Nita Prose
THE MAID
The Maid was a fantastic book to start the year! This is a new release for 2022. It is a murder mystery in a unique hotel setting.
The Maid is The Good Morning America Book Club Pick for January of 2022, and an add-on book for the Book of the Month Subscription Box.
I picked this as an add-on to my Book of the Month Subscription for January.
REVIEW
My first recommendation is The Maid! I LOVED this book! Molly Gray is such a loveable character. Sometimes called Molly Maid. She has challenges with social cues and making friends. She loves her job as a maid, diligently cleaning hotel rooms, but gets stuck in the middle of a murder mystery. I was also surprised by part of the ending, which makes a book so good when you catch a reader off guard.
Oh, how I just loved this book! It has the feel of a Sherlock Holmes-type mystery that is intriguing and intellectual. It makes you feel like a sleuth trying to figure out the murder mystery.
It also features a neuro-diverse character as the protagonist. I learned of this term recently and am grateful for authors who craft stories about characters that mainstream society would not herald as the heroine. They have flaws and troubles that make them more relatable. As a person with debilitating anxiety at times, I connect so much more with a character like this.
I also enjoyed her little sayings and mantras about cleaning since I love cleaning and organizing. Molly had fun sayings and mantras to help her clean and maintain order, which I thoroughly enjoyed!
When all else fails, tidy up!

Her cleaning schedule was also super fun!
Monday, floors and chores. Tuesday, deep cleaning and give meaning. Wednesday, bath and kitchen. Thursday, dust we must. Friday, wash-and-dry day. Saturday, wild card. Sunday, shop and chop.
- The Maid (Prose 56)
Last year I could not recommend Finlay Donovan Is Killing It enough, and I think that will be the case for The Maid this year! I’m so glad Book of the Month had this one as an add-on for January. It was well worth it!
